In the 1990s, Uli Held was working at Porsche's R&D center, responsible for data analysis software. But he quickly realized that true efficiency gains wouldn't come from better software alone — they required better information flow.After observing the entire vehicle testing process, he saw that delays were caused by missing, fragmented, and unclear data. Inspired by how the head of development relied on well-informed assistants, Uli had his AHA moment: large organizations need systems that behave like smart assistants — connected, responsive, and context-aware.Since no such system existed, he began building it himself. The result was Cluu — a platform designed to connect and unify existing data sources without duplicating them.What started as a side project gained traction within Porsche and evolved into a full-fledged company. Together with two brilliant former interns, Jörg Metzler and Anton Feoktistov, and investor Hertha Thoma, Uli founded Softwarehelden.Today, Cluu powers fast and flexible digitalization across major enterprises. And with the rise of large language models, Uli’s original vision — a truly intelligent assistant — is more within reach than ever before.
